Kansai International Airport

Kansai International Airport is like a floating wonderland in Osaka Bay. It opened in 1994 to make flying easier and less crowded than Itami Airport nearby. But here’s the twist – it’s kind of sinking!
The airport sits on an island made of fill (think of it like squishy stuff), and because of its weight, the island has gone down more than 11 meters since it was built. To keep everything safe, they have to keep pumping and reinforcing.
Keeping this cool airport safe costs more than a whopping 20 billion dollars!
